Gazprom Neft’s new manufacturing complex in Omsk will enable to increase production of modern synthetic oils

20 JANUARY 2021
Gazprom Neft has started construction of the hydroisodewaxing complex at Omsk Lubricants Plant. The complex will produce the base for the high-tech synthetic lubricants used in the modern automotive vehicles and industrial equipment. It will allow the company to completely stop using the imported base oils in manufacturing the premium products. The design capacity is 220 thousand tons per year. Gazprom Neft’s investments in the project make more than 32 bn rubles.

Construction of the hydroisodewaxing complex is synchronized with the Gazprom Neft’s program of the Omsk Oil Refinery development. The raw materials for manufacturing the base oils of quality groups II and III will be supplied from the hydrocracking unit of the deep oil refining complex, which will start operating at Omsk Oil Refinery in 2021. This solution will integrate production of synthetic base oils into a single processing chain, provide the additional manufacturing of marketable products and increase the index of oil refining efficiency at Omsk Oil Refinery. The new complex will expand the range of premium synthetic lubricants of the G-Energy and Gazpromneft brands, allowing Gazprom Neft to increase its share in the Russian market of the packed oils to 25% by 2030.

The project of the hydroisodewaxing complex provides modern technological and environmental solutions. The equipment for future installation will be manufactured by the leading Russian companies – Volgogradneftemash (Volgograd) and Uralkhimmash (Yekaterinburg). It is planned to complete the construction work in the end of 2022.

Anatoly Cherner, Gazprom Neft’s Deputy CEO for logistics, refining and sales:

- The new complex will be able to meet the demand of our plants for high-quality raw materials required for manufacturing modern synthetic oils in full. Substitution of imported analogues with our own base oils of groups II and III will help to reduce the cost of finished engine oils and increase their competitiveness. Besides, the new complex will give an opportunity to expand the range of premium synthetic lubricants of the G-Energy and Gazpromneft brands.
